- As an unpaid honorary position, a council member serves for the interest of the nation and the nation’s people and the realization of peaceful unification.
- Council members should maintain their dignity and may not receive requests or pursue personal interests through their position as a council member.
- Council members who have made a huge contribution to realizing national reconciliation and establishing the foundation for unification are granted medals, rewards and the Chairperson's citations.
- Council members are provided with the magazine “Unification Era” issued by the Office of the Secretariat, interpretations on various inter-Korean matters and other materials related to unification.
